Latest News: the Imperial Standard of Measurements has Changed!

ok, so we all know that 64 ounces is a Half Gallon, right?  It says so here.  Well, I got proof that it no longer is the case.

I went to the grocery store the other day, and bought the same ole Half Gallon of Orange Juice.

Half Gallon of Orange Juice

I'm almost embarrassed to tell you it costs almost $5.00, but that's another story.  But you can image how amazed I was when I saw that a half gallon is now only 59 ounces!!

Half Gallon is 59 ounces

So not only has the food business stuck it to us with their increasing prices, now they are giving us less product AND increasing prices.  When is it going to end?

Better Health Plan

I got this joke passed to me today in email.  I thought it was hilarious, so here you all go.
A wealthy woman was being shown around the hospital. During her tour she passed a room where a male patient was masturbating furiously.
"Oh my GOD!" screamed the woman. "That's disgraceful! Why is he doing that?"
The doctor who was leading the tour calmly explained, "I'm very sorry that you were exposed to that, but this man has a serious condition where his testicles rapidly fill with semen, and if he doesn't do that at least five times a day, he'll be in extreme pain and his testicles could easily rupture."
"Oh, well in that case, I guess it's okay" said the woman.
As they passed by the very next room, they saw a male patient lying in bed while a nurse performed oral sex on him. Again, the woman screamed, "Oh my GOD! Now tell me how that can be justified?"
The doctor spoke very calmly, "Same illness, better health care plan."

Recession far from over, we need jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs and more jobs

Every day, I listen to the media, the government, other people around me, tell me that this recession is almost done, we are on the upswing, and a bunch of other bullshit.  Well, to me, and I am no economist, the following stats seem to contradict that.  According to State of California, Employment Development Department, better known as 'the Unemployment Office' reported on March 26, 2010 that Feb unemployment rate stayed the same at 12.5% for the state, the same as it was in Jan of this year.  Guess what people, December 2009 was 12.2%.  Seems the "up" is heading the wrong direction.

Now this one is going to kill you.  In 2008, EDD paid out 8.1 BILLION aka 8 billion 100 million aka ($8,100,000,000.00) dollars to unemployed Californians setting a state record.  But...... in 2009, EDD set yet another record when it paid out, you ready for this, 20.2 BILLION aka 20 billion 200 million aka ($20,200,000,000.00) dollars to unemployed Californians.  That works out to about $80 million dollars A DAY for the year.  California has 1.4 million people out of work in Nov 2009.

I don't know a lot about economics and how to run a government, or how to report the news, but clearly, we need to start being told the truth on a much larger scale.

A shout out to Obama

I don't mean for this post to be any political debate, mostly since I don't belive in the democrats anyway.  But, this year, Obama has certainly put in place a few very nice IRS tax deductions and credits.  For me personally, the following sound very very nice:

  • Up to $2,400 in Unemployment Benefits Tax Free in 2009 (since I got laid off, this is awesome)
  • Enhanced Credits for Tax Years 2009, 2010
  • Money Back for New Vehicle Purchases (I bought a new car this year, woo hoo!  Even us non-itemizers can use this one)
  • First-Time Homebuyer Credit Expands ($8,000 credit... maybe I should buy a foreclosure?)
  • Making Work Pay Tax Credit

I urge you all to check out the IRS page to check out all the individual and business credits and deductions.  If you haven't yet, you might be surprised.  So a shout out to Obama, probably the only one he will get from me.

Enough is Enough! NO MORE TAXES

Ok everyone, this is a plea to everyone, smoker or non.  This is ridiculous.  Democrats want to put an additional $5 in tax on cigarette packs.  Why?  Because they can't manage the budget.  Even if you do not smoke, you can agree that this is just ridiculous.  Help take action.  This website lets you send a letter to your CA representative.
