The only real FREE Credit Report without an inquiry

Ok, how many sites out there say "FREE" Credit Report?  Probably a million at least.  There's always a scam though, gotta sign up for this payment plan or whatever.  Well, if you don't necessarily need to see your credit score, here is the best, fastest, safest, and best of all, FREE way to get your credit reports, anytime, as many times, as you want.

How?  Well, we all know credit bureaus must allow us to dispute our credit profiles.  Well, they have all embraced the online world and allowed for online disputes.  While I would never recommend performing a dispute online, for reasons way to many to go into on this post, you can still use the tool to get your Free Credit Reports.  Below are the links to each credit bureau dispute process page.  All you gotta do is start a dispute, "review" your credit profile, and dispute anything incorrect.  Well, there you go, there's your report, up to the minute. Just please don't dispute things online, for your own sake, manually write a letter and send it to them.  I will explain that later, but if you want to learn why, search around for e-oscar, then you will know why.

As promised, here are the links:

Transunion

Equifax

Experian

NOTE:  These links I provide are direct to each bureau, but please double check your browser, and before you enter your personal information on any page on the internet, make sure you are at a secure site.  Your browser will display a lock or some symbol telling you it is safe and secure.

Build your credit by paying rent!

I found this great service online for those of us who are renters.  Get credit by paying your rent.  As we all know, rent, electric bills, cable & telephone bills, etc. do not go on credit reports as good positive on time payments.  They only go on for negative things.  Well, this service takes care of that for us.  They will report your on time rent and bill payments to the "Big 3" credit reporting companies.  I just signed up, can't wait to see what it does to my score in a month.  Check it out!

Going the Legal Route

Well, continuing with this creditor I last posted about, I decided to contact a lawyer.  He agreed that there is a case and decided to take it.  Read about my lawsuit.

Credit Report Errors – How to fix them?

So to start, I am no expert, but I have read up a lot on some of the best methods to fix credit report errors.  Here's an example I am working on currently.  In April of this year, when randomly checking out my report from Experian, I noticed a new collections account.  It was entered by National Recovery Agency (whoever they are) supposedly for a balance due to Columbia House (dvds?) some many years ago.  Well first things first, this is a bunch of crap, I don't owe money to Columbia House, and if I did, why wait over 5 yeras to put my account in collections, while never attempting to contact me?

So I start the process.  I send a letter to National Recovery Agency (NRA) via USPS.  I also submit a dispute via Experian.  USPS cannot deliver the letter, for reasons I still have not been able to figure out, and Experian reported back "validated" which means it can stay on the report.  Funny, I still have not received any communication from NRA.  So I send the same letter via UPS 2 day ($17 thank you).  They deliver it and according to the Fair Credit (FCRA) rules, I have to give them 30 days to respond to me "validating" the debt.  Well today is day 30, and no response.  Since I have been waiting, I again filed a dispute with Experian, and they "validated" the debt again.  So now what?

Well, now it gets fun.  Now I get to write a letter to NRA telling them that according to FCRA they must pull the account from my report immediately or I get to sue them.  And Experian will get a letter stating that I sent a request for validation, never got a reply, never got any communication, so therefore, Experian needs to prove to me how NRA validated the debt or pull the listing.  Either way, I see myself going to a credit attorney on this one.

More to come on this issue in about 30 days.

Credit Bureaus Ripping Me Off

It seems everyone out there today has advice on how to rebuild or fix credit.  I decided to take the "safe" approach and joined up with Equifax for their credit monitoring service.  Well, I soon realized that what a waste of money it is.  I switched to Experian, same thing.  Not only are the tri-merged reports never in sync, you can only pull them one time a month.  But that's not the worst part of it.  Both companies are extremely horrible in managing their customer's payments.

First with Equifax:  I canceled service and the guy on the phone tells me everything will be canceled, etc. etc.  Well, the next month, low and behold, a charge for the service appears on my credit card.  I call Equifax and was told that I was mistaking and that they don't see anything in their system.  So I go through the process of disputing with my credit card company.  Then, the next month again, another charge.  I call Equifax, this time the guy says that there is a "bug" in the system and he has to file a ticket with some support group to get the credit issued for the charge and to stop billing.  I, of course, again disputed with credit card company, and decided to change my card number.

Experian is next on my list.  After being canceled for over 3 months, a $50 charge appears on my card.  I call and after spending over 30 minutes on the phone, the rep reluctantly decides to credit my card.  She was certain the charge was for an active service, yet she couldn't tell me what that active service was.  Maybe because I had canceled 4 months prior?  Anyway, she says 7-10 business days and I should see the credit on my card.  Guess what, I called them back 20 business days later and the rep said there is some error processing credits in their system.  What the hell?  So I call my credit card company again, they tell me that they can't dispute it until 30 days have gone since the credit was issued.  So I got 7 more days to wait to file the dispute, since Experian "can't process credits."

Know what, I'm going back to the only true totally free credit reports.  As said by the FTC, there is only one true source for Free Credit Reports.  Yes, its powered by the three bureaus, but providing reports is what they know how to do, I sure as hell am not giving them more money.  So take my advice, drop any service where you are paying for credit reports, get them once a year for free using the only credit report website backed by the FTC, AnnualCreditReport.com.
